About the project
Background
The main purpose of this project application is; to increase the quality of adult health education activities aimed at raising the HL level of the society and to develop innovative practices in adult health education. Our institutions aims to protect and improve health; health screenings, monitoring, follow-up and controls, early diagnosis, detection, prevention, protection and education services is conducting. The most important instrument in the services for the protection and development of health is the training and awareness-raising activities carried out in order to increase the awareness of individuals on a healthy life. Our institution provides education at all levels from school health education to adult health education and works to increase the level of social HL. Considering the insufficient level of HL of the countries, it is seen that the classical education methodologies in health education studies aiming to increase the health literacy level of the society are not very efficient in attracting the attention of adults and in learning/teaching success. This situation reveals the necessity of developing more effective training methodologies in adult health education. Our project emerged on the basis of this need.
Objectives
By implementing this project, it is aimed to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of adult health education activities, which primarily aim to increase the SOY skills of the society. Health education activities aimed at increasing the national SOY level of countries are activities that should start with the school age. However, the current adult population cannot be ignored. The effects of classical education methods are limited, especially in countries with low-skilled middle-aged and older adult populations such as Turkey and Portugal. Increasingly difficult living conditions, intense work schedule, low literacy, adult population that cannot keep up with technological developments and constantly changing health conditions have made it necessary to develop new education models. These models; It is necessary to facilitate the delivery of health information to adult learners, to make the information easy to understand by adults, to be constantly updated, to save time by integrating it into the natural flow of life, and to provide continuity for all parties. With the project, it is aimed to eliminate the disadvantages in adult health education and to create a continuous education model by using the advantages of the digital age
Implementation
Activities carried out within the scope of our project:
- Health Literacy Level Determination Study: A SOY questionnaire was applied to 312 adults in Turkey / Kırıkkale, Portugal / Braga and Austria / Vienna by using the European SOY project (HLS-EU) scales. The first results obtained made it possible to compare the SOY level in the cities of residence of the project partner organizations with the national SOY level. These results will also be used to assess the impact of the project idea output on adult learners.
- Literature Review: With the literature review, the previous literature on health literacy was searched, the point reached on the subject was determined, it was aimed to know the main issues / issues in this field the by all partner organizations and participant personnel.
- Creating Content: The contents of the health education activities carried out by our institutions have been reconsidered on a universal basis and reconstituted in accordance with the methodology to be applied in our project.
- Methodology Development: It was ensured that the training contents to be offered through the mobile application were presented with a specific methodology.
- Application Modeling and software development
Results
Within the scope of our project, a series of activities were carried out and the Mobile SOY application, which is the intellectual output of the project and called MobiHealth, was implemented. MobiHealth makes smart mobile phones, which have become an integral part of us as an education platform aiming to turn technological opportunities into an advantage in terms of adult health education, a tool for health education. The most common problem encountered in the training activities carried out by our institutions to date has been the inability of adults to spare time for these trainings, thus insufficient participation. The application facilitates the delivery of health information to adults by creating continuous education opportunities for the adult population who cannot spare time for educational organizations in their daily life. One of the biggest problems of adult education is that adults are forced to read pages of text. The content has been concentrated by expert health personnel, its language has been simplified and its readability has been increased, and it has aimed to increase the teaching/learning success with the applied methodology. The application contains reliable and universal information.
